Privacy policy

Mobile USOS is the official mobile application of the University Centre for Informatization MUCI. It is intended for use by the academic community of the higher education institutions (HEIs) of MUCI, that is by their employees and students (Users). It allows the Users to access selected functions of the USOS student information system (USOS) located at their respective HEIs with their mobile devices.

Mobile USOS has been developed and is maintained by the MUCI software team (Developer).

During the installation process, a User selects their HEI from the list of HEIs in the app. Each HEI has access only to the identity and data of its Users. The developer has no access to the personal data of Users. The right to process the personal data of Users by their respective HEIs is based on the existing relationships between students and employees and their HEIs, as determined by the corresponding laws, and on individual extended consents given by individual Users.

The transmission of data over the network, including authentication, is encrypted and takes place directly between the user’s mobile device and their HEI's university systems with no third parties involved.

To use the app, the User must have a valid student or employee account in the student information systems of their HEI, enabling them to log in (authenticate) with their login and password.

During the first login, the User has to explicitly grant the app access rights to their data in the HEI’s student information systems. Data accessible by a User via the app reflects the individual access rights of that particular User in the student information system of their respective HEI.

A HEI does not access users' data on their mobile devices nor does it provide such access to third parties. Access requests to the resources of the mobile device are used solely to provide application features:

  • Calendar — used to create records of events (like classes) into the personal calendar;
  • Camera — used for scanning QR codes;
  • Notifications — used for displaying notifications, for example about new grades;
  • Other — used to access the Internet and to provide Google Maps view in app.

Users receive notifications from the University. The notifications can be disabled in the Android system settings on a per-application basis. The steps required may differ between different versions of Android.

When enabled during the installation process or in the settings, the app sends diagnostic data in the case of serious malfunction or crash to the Developer. The data is not linked to a specific user and contains the model number, Android version, and technical details of the error. The data is used solely for the continual improvement of the application.

A particular HEI may choose to collect more detailed diagnostic data. Such decisions do not involve any data access by the Developer.

Please note, that Google Inc. collects data on the users of the Google Play store and Android operating system but the data do not originate from Mobile USOS and it is beyond the scope of the relationship between the HEI and the User. The HEI and or Developer hold no responsibility for the privacy policy of Google Play or for the compliance of Google Play with the personal data protection laws, in particular with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR").

We also encourage Users to check for resources on data safety available for students and employees on the web pages of their HEIs.

The privacy policy is subject to change. The current revision of the text is always available via the information page of the app in the Google Play store and in the menu of the app itself. Please check back from time to time. Users will be notified by their respective HEIs about changes that can significantly impact their privacy.
